Devon Marsh VIPsAllowed — Proper grown-up champagne
8/10

My local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something a bit different from the usual Moët. It's bone dry and has this lovely depth to it that builds as you drink. Not a crowd-pleaser for people who like their fizz sweet, but if you appreciate something with a bit more going on, it's excellent.

Bought this for my 40th and honestly it was the highlight of the night. Really clean and crisp, not too sweet at all which I loved. The bubbles are fine and elegant and it just kept getting better the more I drank. At £77 it's not cheap but for a special occasion it's worth every penny.

Zara Al-Hassan VIPsAllowed — Nice but probably wouldn't rebuy at this price

Had this at a friend's dinner party and really enjoyed it — fresh, well-balanced, proper Chardonnay character coming through. But when I looked up the price afterwards, nearly £80 is steep. I've had champagnes at £45-50 that get me most of the way there. Good wine though, no question.
