Christmas in a glass

Bought this for my dad's 60th and we ended up finishing the whole bottle between us. It's like drinking liquid Christmas cake — all that dark fruit and toffee. The finish is what got me though, it goes dry at the end so it's not just a sugar bomb. At £56 it's not cheap but for a 30 year old sherry it felt like a bargain honestly.

Best champagne I've had in ages

Saw this on a menu at a wine bar and the waiter talked me into it. Absolutely loved it — there's a lovely freshness with citrus and then this almond nuttiness that creeps in. Went home and ordered a bottle online immediately. The no added sulphur thing is a nice bonus too.

Birthday treat that delivered

Got this for my 40th and honestly it was the highlight of the night. Really elegant bubbles, not harsh at all, and there's this lovely depth to it that kept me going back for another sip. At £57 it's not cheap but for a special occasion? Absolutely worth it.

Birthday treat that delivered

Got this as a birthday present to myself because why not. Really glad I did — there's so much going on in the glass, layers of flavour that kept changing as I drank it. The finish just goes on and on. Properly special bottle.

Bit steep but it's quality

Saw Ayala on a restaurant menu ages ago and finally tracked a bottle down. It's good — really well balanced and more interesting than your average Champagne — but £38 is creeping into "do I need this" territory for a non-vintage. That said the zero-sugar thing means it tastes super clean with no cloying aftertaste, so I get why people rate it.

Old vines = the real deal

Saw this on a restaurant wine list and the sommelier said the vieille vigne means old vines which apparently makes a difference. She was right. There's a depth and structure here that cheaper champagnes just don't have. Clean finish that sticks around for ages. Properly special bottle.

Perfect dinner party bottle

Brought this to a friend's dinner party and everyone commented on it. It's got real character — you can tell it's a cut above the usual stuff. The acidity keeps things fresh and interesting. Went brilliantly with the fish course and the cheese board after.

Impressed the in-laws

Needed something decent for when the in-laws came round and this was recommended on a wine forum. Really confident, bold nose on it and it opened up nicely over the evening. Father-in-law asked me to send him the name, which is basically the highest compliment he gives. The acidity keeps it fresh even though it's a big wine at 14%.

Solid weeknight red

Picked this up from the wine shop on a whim and honestly really happy with it. For under £14 you get a proper Rioja that doesn't taste cheap — good fruit, nice acidity, and it went down a treat with some lamb chops. Will definitely grab another bottle.

Good not great

Had this at a friend's dinner party and thought it was solid. Pretty and well made with a nice clean finish. Wouldn't rush out to buy a bottle myself at that price point though — I think there are rosé champagnes around £45-50 that get you 90% of the way there.

Birthday treat that delivered

Got this for my wife's 40th and we were both blown away. Really crisp and clean with loads of flavour that kept changing as we drank it. At nearly £70 it's not an everyday buy but for a special occasion rosé champagne? Worth every penny.

Good but very intense

Got this as a birthday present and it's definitely interesting. Very full-on with the dried fruit and molasses flavours, almost too much for me. I usually go for lighter stuff so this was a bit of a challenge. My partner loved it though so maybe it's just not my style.

Seriously good rosé champers

Had this at a restaurant and liked it so much I tracked down a bottle. The 2008 vintage has had loads of time to develop and you can tell — there's a toasty, pastry quality alongside the fruit that younger champagnes just don't have. Chalky dry finish keeps it fresh. Not an everyday buy at that price but it's the real deal.

Lovely little half bottle

Grabbed this half bottle for a Tuesday night treat because why not. Really floral and fresh, with nice bubbles that don't go flat after ten minutes like cheaper stuff. At £31 for a half it's not cheap but it genuinely tastes like proper Champagne, not just fizzy wine.

Solid port, nothing fancy

It's a decent tawny port for the price. Nice nutty flavours and smooth enough that the alcohol doesn't burn. I wouldn't say it blew my mind but it does the job on a cold evening with some stilton.

Best champagne I've ever had

My wife got me this for my 50th and I'm still thinking about it weeks later. The nose hit me straight away — seriously expressive, like nothing I've smelled before in a champagne. Rich but not heavy, fresh but not sharp. I don't give 10s lightly but this earned it.

Solid rosé for the price

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something dry and interesting. It's got a bit more structure than your typical rosé which I appreciated. Not mind-blowing but I'd buy it again.

Expected more for the money

The wine shop guy talked me into this and I wanted to love it more than I did. It's nice enough — lots of prune and almond flavours — but at over a hundred quid I was expecting something more special. The long finish is impressive though, I'll give it that.

Lovely birthday bubbles

My husband got me this for my birthday and it was really special. Beautiful pink colour and you get this gorgeous baked apple and biscuity thing going on. Definitely a treat bottle — not something I'd buy every week at that price but perfect for celebrations.

Great after-dinner sipper

Bought this for a dinner party and it went down really well with the cheese board. It's rich and warming with a nice almond nuttiness. The 19.5% ABV sneaks up on you though so go steady. Would buy again but maybe not an everyday thing.
