This France champagne from Pierre Paillard is a Pinot Noir, Chardonnay expression that punches above its price point.

This is not your light and fruity prosecco replacement — it's got real weight to it. Loads of brioche and almond with a lemony freshness that stops it feeling heavy. Had it with roast chicken and it was perfect. The Pinot Noir really comes through.

Brought this to a dinner party and everyone kept asking about it. It's creamy and toasty with these lovely hazelnut notes, and the finish just goes on and on. My mate who knows way more about wine than me said the chalky minerally quality is a Bouzy thing, which I'll take his word for. Either way it's delicious and I've already ordered more.

The wine shop guy recommended this as a step up from my usual Moët and it is better, don't get me wrong. Lovely baked apple smell and a proper bready richness to it. Just not sure it's £46 better than a decent £30 bottle — felt like I was paying a premium for the Bouzy name. That said I'd happily drink it again if someone else was buying.
