Marcus Chen VIPsAllowed — Nice but not sure it's worth the premium
7/10

Saw this on a restaurant wine list and decided to try it by the glass. It's lovely — really elegant, fine bubbles, citrusy and toasty at the same time. But I'm not convinced it's that much better than something like Pol Roger at half the price. Maybe I need to try it again.

Had this at a friend's dinner party and thought it was really nice — creamy, toasty, proper champagne flavour. But when I looked up the price afterwards, £85 is a lot. I've had bottles at £50 that I enjoyed just as much. Still, the finish goes on forever which is pretty impressive.

I'm slowly learning more about wine and this was a bit of an eye-opener. It's got real depth to it — not just bubbles and acid like cheaper stuff. The almond and brioche notes are gorgeous and it just keeps going after you swallow. Three different grapes in here apparently and you can kind of tell it's complex.
