7/10

This Spain fortified from Gutierrez Colosia is a Pedro Ximenez expression that punches above its price point.

Grabbed the half bottle because I'd never tried a PX sherry before and didn't want to commit to a full one. So glad I did. It's incredibly concentrated — like fig jam and dark chocolate — but there's this tangy savoury thing right at the end that stops it being one-note. At 17% it's a sipper though, a little goes a long way.

Bought the half bottle to try with cheese after dinner and honestly wished I'd got the full size. It's like liquid Christmas pudding — figs, dates, dark chocolate — but it doesn't taste sugary or cloying which surprised me. That dry finish at the end is a proper curveball. Really impressive for £21.50.

Birthday present from my partner who knows I like fortified wines. The half bottle format is a bit annoying at that price point — works out pretty expensive per glass. That said, the wine itself is lovely. Big caramel and roasted nut flavours, proper sticky and rich. Would buy again if it came in 75cl.
