First Impressions

Henners Brut NV arrives at £39.95, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. 75cl / 12% - The vineyards of Henners are less than a mile from the sea in East Sussex which they farm with minimal intervention. This is a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir.

English winemaking has come of age, with producers demonstrating that the country's chalky soils and cool climate can yield wines of genuine quality and character. Henners is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers bright and inviting with aromas of green apple, elderflower, and fresh-baked pastry. Moving to the palate, the wine is crisp and well-balanced with citrus freshness, stone fruit, and a pleasingly creamy texture. The finish is clean and refreshing finish with citrus, green apple, and a pleasant mineral dryness.

Food Pairing and Serving

Versatile enough for aperitifs, light seafood, or celebration toasts. Serve well chilled at 6-8°C to enjoy the mousse at its liveliest.

The Verdict

Henners Brut NV earns a well-deserved 6 out of 10. This is a solid sparkling that delivers Pinot Noir with genuine conviction and craft. At £39.95, this represents excellent value for money. Whether you are building a cellar or simply looking for something excellent to drink tonight, this bottle earns its place.

Benjamin Ross VIPsAllowed - Solid English fizz

The wine shop guy recommended this as a good example of English sparkling and I can see why. There's a green apple thing going on that's really pleasant and it finishes clean. Not going to blow your mind but I'd happily drink it again.

Bought this for my wife's birthday and we both really enjoyed it. Lovely apple-y freshness and the bubbles are really smooth and creamy. At £40 it's not an everyday thing but felt special enough for the occasion.

Had this at a friend's house and it was perfectly drinkable — crisp and refreshing with some citrusy notes. But honestly for nearly £40 I'd expect a bit more depth. You can get a decent Crémant for half the price that does the same job.

8/10

I was skeptical about English sparkling wine but this has properly won me over. The mousse is so creamy and there's a lovely stone fruit sweetness in the middle that balances out the crispness. Bought two more bottles after trying this at a dinner party.

We had this with fish and chips on the patio last weekend and it worked really well. Light and citrusy, not too heavy at 12%. It's nice but I'm not sure it quite justifies the price tag when there's so much good Prosecco around for less.

Saw this on a restaurant menu and thought I'd give it a go. It's pleasant enough — appley and fresh with a dry mineral finish. But at this price point I kept thinking I'd rather have had a Champagne. One and done for me.

Picked this up after reading about English sparkling wines and wanting to try one. The elderflower note is gorgeous and it's got this biscuity thing underneath that surprised me. Very easy drinking — we finished the bottle before the starter was even done.
