Rich and persistent with walnut, toffee, and a dry tangy close

First Impressions

Harveys Pedro Ximenez Sherry / 30 Year Old arrives at £55.95 for 50cl, and at this price point, expectations are rightly elevated. Rather more special than the famous Bristol Cream, this is a super-luxurious Pedro Ximenez sherry from Harvey's, comprised of solera-aged sherry over 30 years old. Incredibly rich, sweet

Spain's wine renaissance has seen traditional regions rediscovering their identity while new-wave producers push boundaries with indigenous varieties. Harveys is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers deep and concentrated with notes of Christmas cake, molasses, roasted coffee, and aged wood. Moving to the palate, the wine is dense and concentrated, with layers of Christmas pudding, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee, finishing dry despite the richness. The finish is rich and persistent with walnut, toffee, and a dry tangy close.

Food Pairing and Serving

Outstanding with blue cheese, dark chocolate, nuts, or enjoyed on its own as a contemplative after-dinner pour. Serve slightly chilled at 12–14°C.

The Verdict

Harveys Pedro Ximenez Sherry / 30 Year Old earns a well-deserved 8 out of 10. This is an outstanding fortified that delivers Pedro Ximenez with genuine conviction and craft. At £55.95, this is a serious wine that justifies the investment. Whether you're building a cellar or simply looking for something excellent to drink tonight, this bottle earns its place.

8/10

I always thought sherry was that dusty stuff my nan drinks but this Pedro Ximenez is something else entirely. Nearly black in colour and tastes like the best coffee and walnut cake you've ever had. My partner who hates sweet wines actually liked it because it dries out at the end. Would buy again for special occasions.

Picked this up after seeing it recommended online somewhere. It's good — really thick and rich, loads of dark chocolate and dried fruit. But at nearly £56 I'm not sure I'd rush to buy it again when there are decent PX sherries for half that. That said the finish is really long and interesting, proper grown-up stuff.

Had this with a blue stilton after Christmas dinner and genuinely one of the best things I've ever tasted together. The molasses and toffee flavours are incredible and 30 years of ageing really shows. You don't need much — just a small pour — so the bottle lasts ages. Worth every penny of the £56.

Bought this for my dad's 60th and we ended up finishing the whole bottle between us. It's like drinking liquid Christmas cake — all that dark fruit and toffee. The finish is what got me though, it goes dry at the end so it's not just a sugar bomb. At £56 it's not cheap but for a 30 year old sherry it felt like a bargain honestly.

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something different for a dinner party. It's VERY rich — dark chocolate and coffee vibes, almost like a dessert on its own. I liked it but a little goes a long way. Poured small glasses and everyone was impressed, so it did the job.
