Harveys Pedro Ximenez Sherry / 30 Year Old: A Fortified Masterclass
Fortified 16% ABV ABV HarveysConverts sherry doubters
I always thought sherry was that dusty stuff my nan drinks but this Pedro Ximenez is something else entirely. Nearly black in colour and tastes like the best coffee and walnut cake you've ever had. My partner who hates sweet wines actually liked it because it dries out at the end. Would buy again for special occasions.
Bit pricey but interesting
Picked this up after seeing it recommended online somewhere. It's good — really thick and rich, loads of dark chocolate and dried fruit. But at nearly £56 I'm not sure I'd rush to buy it again when there are decent PX sherries for half that. That said the finish is really long and interesting, proper grown-up stuff.
Stunning with cheese
Had this with a blue stilton after Christmas dinner and genuinely one of the best things I've ever tasted together. The molasses and toffee flavours are incredible and 30 years of ageing really shows. You don't need much — just a small pour — so the bottle lasts ages. Worth every penny of the £56.
Christmas in a glass
Bought this for my dad's 60th and we ended up finishing the whole bottle between us. It's like drinking liquid Christmas cake — all that dark fruit and toffee. The finish is what got me though, it goes dry at the end so it's not just a sugar bomb. At £56 it's not cheap but for a 30 year old sherry it felt like a bargain honestly.
Good but very intense
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something different for a dinner party. It's VERY rich — dark chocolate and coffee vibes, almost like a dessert on its own. I liked it but a little goes a long way. Poured small glasses and everyone was impressed, so it did the job.
