Penelope Hart VIPsAllowed - Great find from a wine shop recommendation
7/10

The guy in our local wine shop suggested this when I said I wanted something unusual for a dinner party. Really glad he did. It's got this lovely salty, coastal edge to it that keeps it interesting and the walnut finish just goes on and on. Not your typical honey wine at all — more like a dry sherry crossed with something completely different. Went down really well with the guests.

Celeste Moreno VIPsAllowed - Not what I expected at all
7/10

Picked this up at a food market in Kinsale thinking it'd be sweet like the meads I've had before. Completely wrong — it's properly dry with this amazing butterscotch and nutty thing going on. At £25 it's not cheap but honestly it's so different from anything else I've tried that I didn't mind. Would definitely get another bottle.

Lena Petrova VIPsAllowed - Good with cheese
6/10

Had this after dinner with a cheese board and it was a really nice match. The prune and raisin notes work well with strong cheddar. Bit pricey for what it is at nearly £26 but it's definitely a conversation starter — everyone wanted to know what it was.

Wei Zhang VIPsAllowed - Interesting but not for me
5/10

My partner got this as part of a gift hamper. It's well made I think, very rich and warming with dried fruit flavours, but I kept wanting it to be a bit sweeter since it's made from honey. The finish is surprisingly dry and almost tannic which threw me off. One to try if you're curious but I probably wouldn't buy it myself.
