First Impressions

Barbadillo Old Dry Oloroso Cuco (half bottle) arrives at £19.95, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. 37.5cl / 19.5% - A fantastic pairing for game casseroles. Aged for a minimum of 12 years, this oloroso sherry has big aromas of dried fruits and varnished oak, alongside flavours.

Spain continues to surprise and delight, with traditional styles being elevated by a new generation of producers who balance heritage with innovation. Barbadillo is a name worth knowing in this context.

Olivia Park VIPsAllowed - Solid sherry, does the job
6/10

Tried this at a tapas place and ordered a bottle online after. It's a nice oloroso — the dried apricot and fig flavours come through well and it doesn't taste as boozy as 19.5% sounds. Not life-changing but I'd happily have it in the cupboard for when mates come round.

7/10

Picked this up for a dinner party and it was a hit. The butterscotch and nutty thing going on is gorgeous, and it went down way too easy for nearly 20% ABV. At twenty quid it's a solid shout if you want something a bit different.

5/10

My partner loves sherry so I grabbed this as a birthday present. It's alright — the fig and raisin flavours are nice enough but I found it a bit intense for me. Probably one for sherry fans rather than casual drinkers. Decent quality though for the price.

Had this with some manchego and almonds on a cold evening and honestly it was perfect. The hazelnut and butterscotch on the nose pulled me right in. Silky, warming, and that salty finish at the end is class. Will definitely buy again.

Liam Anderson VIPsAllowed - Good but not amazing
6/10

The guy at the wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted to try oloroso. It's got a lovely dried fruit and coffee thing happening, and that salty finish is interesting. Just felt like it needed a bit more oomph to really wow me. Fair enough for £20.
