Barbadillo Old Dry Oloroso Cuco: A Sip of History
Fortified 19.5% ABV ABV BarbadilloSolid sherry, does the job
Tried this at a tapas place and ordered a bottle online after. It's a nice oloroso — the dried apricot and fig flavours come through well and it doesn't taste as boozy as 19.5% sounds. Not life-changing but I'd happily have it in the cupboard for when mates come round.
Really nice after-dinner sipper
Picked this up for a dinner party and it was a hit. The butterscotch and nutty thing going on is gorgeous, and it went down way too easy for nearly 20% ABV. At twenty quid it's a solid shout if you want something a bit different.
Not quite my thing
My partner loves sherry so I grabbed this as a birthday present. It's alright — the fig and raisin flavours are nice enough but I found it a bit intense for me. Probably one for sherry fans rather than casual drinkers. Decent quality though for the price.
Proper winter warmer
Had this with some manchego and almonds on a cold evening and honestly it was perfect. The hazelnut and butterscotch on the nose pulled me right in. Silky, warming, and that salty finish at the end is class. Will definitely buy again.
Good but not amazing
The guy at the wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted to try oloroso. It's got a lovely dried fruit and coffee thing happening, and that salty finish is interesting. Just felt like it needed a bit more oomph to really wow me. Fair enough for £20.
