Petra Novak VIPsAllowed - Impressive but steep

Tried this at a tasting event and yeah it's good, really nutty with that caramel sweetness, but I'm not sure it's £259 good. I've had 20-year tawnies at half the price that got me nearly as excited. If someone else is buying though, absolutely say yes.

Birthday present from my brother-in-law. It's nice, the caramel and fig flavours are definitely there, but honestly after two glasses I was a bit over it. Very rich and I found the 20% hit harder than I expected. Sure it's well made but I think I'd rather have three bottles of something else for the same money.

I'm mostly a red wine person and never really got port until I tried this at a friend's house after dinner. The apricot sweetness and that almond nuttiness completely won me over. It's not heavy or syrupy like I expected — there's a sharpness underneath that keeps it interesting. Now I need to find £259 down the back of the sofa.

Poured this alongside a stilton and some walnuts on Boxing Day and it was perfect. You get that orange peel brightness cutting through all the richness. 50 years old is mad when you think about it. Only knocking a point off because at this price I keep feeling guilty every time I pour a glass.

Got this as a retirement gift for my dad and we cracked it open at the party. The dried fig and walnut thing is real — it's like the poshest Christmas cake you've ever had in liquid form. Finish goes on forever, proper warming. At £259 it's not an everyday thing but for a milestone it felt worth it.

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for our anniversary. The toffee and dark chocolate on the finish just keeps going and going. My wife said it reminded her of the ports we had in Porto years ago. Really lovely stuff.
