First Impressions

Port of Leith White Port arrives at £20.75, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. 75cl / 19% - A white port from Port of Leith Distillery, made with a field blend of Malvasia Fina, Viosinho, Gouveio and Donzelinho grapes and is matured in oak casks for on.

Scotland's fortified wine tradition may be less known, but producers are creating distinctive and characterful expressions worth exploring. Port of Leith is a name worth knowing in this context.

The nose offers intense aromas of raisin, toffee, and dark chocolate, layered with nutty complexity. Moving to the palate, the wine is deep and nutty, showing dried apricot, roasted almond, and caramel with a clean acidic backbone. The finish is incredibly long finish with dried fruit, nut, and a warming spice that lingers beautifully.

Wonderful with strong cheeses, charcuterie, or dark chocolate desserts. Serve slightly chilled at 12-14°C for lighter styles, or at room temperature for richer expressions.

Luciano Bianchi VIPsAllowed - Really interesting white port
8/10

Got recommended this by someone at a tasting event and I'm glad I listened. It's way more complex than I expected from a white port — loads of dried fruit and a nutty thing going on that I really liked. The finish just goes on and on which is class. Only knocking a point off because I wish it came in a half bottle too, 19% means I can't casually drink the whole thing on a Tuesday.

10/10

My wife got me this for my birthday after seeing it somewhere online. Honestly one of the best things I've drunk this year. That caramel and roasted almond combo is gorgeous and there's an acidity that stops it being too sweet. We had it after dinner with some dark chocolate and both just sat there grinning. Already ordered another bottle.

Not gonna lie, first sip I wasn't sure about this. It's quite intense and the raisin flavour hit me harder than I expected. Second glass the next evening though it clicked — the dried apricot and that long spicy finish are genuinely lovely. Bit pricey at £20+ for a port I wasn't sure about initially, but I can see why people rate it highly. Would probably buy again now I know what I'm getting into.

Priya Sharma VIPsAllowed - This stuff is dangerous

Bought this on a whim from an online shop and wow. The toffee and chocolate thing is real — it's like dessert in a glass but not in a sickly way. Poured some for my mate who "doesn't like port" and he went quiet for about 30 seconds then asked where I got it. At twenty quid this is staying in my rotation.
