First Impressions

Niepoort White Rabbit Dry White Port (half bottle) arrives at £12.25, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. 37.5cl / 19.5% - A half bottle of the last of the Niepoortland trio which is a series inspired by Lewis Carol's Alice in Wonderland. White Rabbit is Dirk's white port; a fresh.

Portugal's wine scene extends far beyond port, with producers crafting increasingly refined expressions that showcase the country's unique terroir and grape varieties. Niepoort is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers deep nose of prune, molasses, and roasted almond, with a thread of sea salt and iodine. Moving to the palate, the wine is luscious and concentrated, with layers of dried fruit, toffee, and spice, balanced by a dry tannic grip. The finish is persistent finish of fig, roasted almond, and sea salt that goes on and on.

Food Pairing and Serving

Wonderful with strong cheeses, charcuterie, or dark chocolate desserts. Serve slightly chilled at 12-14°C for lighter styles, or at room temperature for richer expressions.

The Verdict

Daniel Oyama VIPsAllowed - Absolutely stunned by this

Picked this up from a port recommendation thread online and wow. The dried fruit and toffee thing is real — it's like Christmas cake in a glass but dry, not sweet. That salty finish is unlike anything I've had before. At £12.25 this is genuinely a steal for something this interesting.

The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something different. It's properly complex — figgy, salty, spicy all at once. I keep going back to it. Niepoort clearly know what they're doing and the price point is mad for the quality.

Got this as a birthday present and it's definitely interesting. Very full-on with the dried fruit and molasses flavours, almost too much for me. I usually go for lighter stuff so this was a bit of a challenge. My partner loved it though so maybe it's just not my style.

Bought this for a dinner party and it went down really well with the cheese board. It's rich and warming with a nice almond nuttiness. The 19.5% ABV sneaks up on you though so go steady. Would buy again but maybe not an everyday thing.
