Roucas Toumba Vacqueyras La Grande Terre 2023: A Red of Genuine Distinction
Red 14.5% ABV ABV Roucas ToumbaGood but bit pricey
It's a solid wine, don't get me wrong. Lots of blackcurrant and a nice smoky finish that hangs around. But for over thirty quid I'd probably want it to be a tiny bit more exciting? I've had Rhône blends at £20 that come close.
Decent Southern Rhône
Nice enough Vacqueyras. Dark fruit, bit of liquorice, the usual suspects for this style. Tannins are well behaved and the finish is long. I just feel like you can find similar quality for a bit less if you shop around. Not bad though, wouldn't turn it down.
Absolutely stunning
Recommended by a friend who knows her wines and she was spot on. The blackcurrant and leather combo is gorgeous, and it's got this lovely cedar warmth on the finish. Shared it over a Sunday roast and we ended up ordering two more bottles. At £31.50 it feels like a bargain for this quality honestly.
Blown away by this
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it and wow. Seriously dark fruit flavours, almost like a blackcurrant jam but in the best way. The smokiness really comes through too. At £31.50 it's not an everyday bottle but it's worth every penny for a special occasion.
Birthday treat that delivered
My partner got me this for my birthday and it's one of the best reds I've had in ages. Really rich and dark with this tobacco and cedar thing on the finish that just keeps going. The 14.5% ABV sneaks up on you though, fair warning!
Great with a slow-cooked lamb
Bought this for a dinner party and it went down really well with the lamb shoulder I'd been cooking all day. Big bold red with loads of dark fruit and a kind of leathery, savoury thing going on. Would definitely buy again.
Proper grown-up red
Saw this on a restaurant menu and looked it up afterwards to buy a bottle for home. It's got that smoky paprika note that I really liked, and the tannins are smooth enough that you don't need to age it. Goes brilliantly with steak or even just a cheeseboard.
This one's a keeper
I don't know loads about wine but I know what I like and I really liked this. It's bold and fruity without being sweet, and there's a sort of warm spicy thing at the end. Opened it with pizza night which is probably not what you're meant to do but it worked great.
