Philipponnat Blanc de Noirs 2019 Vintage: A Toast-Worthy Cuvee
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV PhilipponnatNice but steep price tag
Good champagne, no doubt about it. Creamy, full, lovely toasty bread thing on the finish. But at nearly seventy quid I'd want it to be truly mind-blowing, and I've had bottles at £45 that came close. Would buy again on offer though.
Birthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and wow, it did not disappoint. Really rich and appley with this amazing nutty thing going on. The bubbles are super fine and it just keeps going on the finish. Worth every penny for a special occasion.
Good not great
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and ordered it because I like Philipponnat. It's solid — nice depth, citrusy finish, decent complexity. But for a 2019 vintage champagne at this price point I expected a bit more wow factor. Pleasant rather than exciting.
New Year's Eve winner
Picked this up for NYE and it was absolutely gorgeous. So much flavour — apple, nuts, honey, then this long toasty finish that just goes on and on. At 12.5% it's not going to knock you sideways either. Already planning to get another couple of bottles.
Stole the show at our dinner party
Served this blind alongside two other champagnes and everyone picked this as their favourite. The honey and baked apple really come through and it's got this gorgeous long finish. My mate who "doesn't really like champagne" had three glasses.
Lovely with roast chicken
Had this with a Sunday roast and it was brilliant — the richness of it actually stood up to the food rather than getting lost. You can really taste the hazelnut. Bubbles are tiny and persistent which I always think is a good sign.
Proper grown-up champagne
The wine shop guy steered me towards this when I said I wanted something a bit different from the usual. It's 100% Pinot Noir which gives it way more body than your average fizz. Loved the baked apple and hazelnut flavours — felt like autumn in a glass.
First blanc de noirs and I'm converted
I didn't even know champagne could be made from just red grapes until my partner explained it. This is so much fuller and richer than what I normally drink. There's a chalky dry thing at the end that makes you want another sip immediately. Really interesting bottle.
