First Impressions

Perrine Fresne Sarmate NV Champagne arrives at £45.25, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. 75cl / 12% - Perrine Fresne is producing her wines in the village of Sermiers in the south of the Petite Montagne de Reims, a village that is dominated by the co-opperatives..

France's winemaking heritage needs no introduction, but the best producers continue to find new ways to express their terroir while honouring centuries of tradition. Perrine Fresne is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers delicate nose of white peach, fresh bread, and a hint of chalk and lemon curd. Moving to the palate, the wine is precise and focused, with lemon curd, green apple, and a chalky texture that drives the palate. The finish is lingering and refined, with a final note of almond, citrus, and a dry mineral finish.

Food Pairing and Serving

Equally at home as an aperitif or alongside seafood, sushi, or delicate canapés. Serve at 8-10°C in proper flutes or, better yet, white wine glasses to appreciate the full bouquet.

The Verdict

Perrine Fresne Sarmate NV Champagne earns a well-deserved 7 out of 10. This is a very good champagne that delivers Chardonnay with genuine conviction and craft. At £45.25, this represents excellent value for money. Whether you are building a cellar or simply looking for something excellent to drink tonight, this bottle earns its place.

Elena Morozova VIPsAllowed - Nice blend, proper dry finish
7/10

I'm still learning about champagne but I liked that this has all three grapes in it — Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. You get green apple and lemon upfront and then it dries out really nicely at the end. Had it with some fish and chips which probably isn't what you're supposed to do but it worked great.

Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and it went down a treat. Lovely bready smell when you pour it, and the lemon curd thing is real — it's rich but not heavy at all. At £45 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for a special occasion.

Marianne Blom VIPsAllowed - My new go-to for dinner parties

Picked this up after seeing it recommended somewhere online and absolutely loved it. There's this amazing fresh bread and peach thing on the nose, and the finish goes on forever — almonds and citrus just hanging around. Three of us killed two bottles with some cheese and none of us wanted to stop.

Had this at a friend's house and it was fine, perfectly drinkable champagne with some nice apple and lemon flavours. But honestly for £45 I'd expect something that blows me away and this didn't quite get there. Would probably go for a decent crémant at half the price instead.

Saw this on a menu at a restaurant and ordered a glass on a whim. The chalky mineral thing at the end is what really got me — it's dry without being harsh and it just makes you want another sip. Tracked down a bottle to buy afterwards which says it all really. Small producer champagne like this is where the value is.

7/10

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something a bit different from Moët. It's crisp and dry with a nice chalky texture that I wasn't expecting. Good but I'm not sure I'd pick it over some of the cheaper options I've had recently.
