Paul Dethune Princesse des Thunes NV Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Paul DethuneStood up to the whole meal
Opened this with starters and it was still great by dessert. Not one of those champagnes that gets lost after the first course — it's got enough going on to keep up with richer food. Complex without being try-hard, if that makes sense. At 12.5% it's easy drinking too, didn't feel heavy at all by the end of the night.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my 40th and wow, it's properly good champagne. Really layered smell — you keep finding new things every time you sniff it. Loads of depth on the taste too, not just fizzy wine like some cheaper stuff. At nearly £80 it's not an everyday thing but for a special occasion it's hard to beat.
The wine shop guy was right
Went in looking for something for our anniversary and the guy behind the counter recommended this. Grand Cru apparently, which I'm told is a big deal. It's got a gorgeous nose on it and the acidity keeps everything fresh without being sharp. Felt like a proper treat and the finish just lingers nicely. Really glad I trusted his pick.
Nice but steep price
Had this at a friend's dinner party and it was lovely — clean finish, really well balanced, proper grown-up champagne. But then I looked up the price and £78 is a lot when there are great options at half that. Would I buy it myself? Probably not, but I'd happily drink someone else's bottle again.
