Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port 2020
Fortified 20% ABV ABV NiepoortReally impressed with this
Picked this up from Majestic on a whim and honestly it's punching well above its weight for under thirty quid. Loads of dark fruit, really rich and concentrated but not syrupy. The acidity keeps everything fresh which I wasn't expecting from a port. Will definitely be buying another bottle for Christmas.
Nice with a cheese board
We cracked this open with friends on a Friday night alongside some strong cheddar and crackers. Everyone enjoyed it. Ripe fruit flavours, good balance, and it doesn't taste cheap at all. £29 is reasonable for a port of this quality I reckon. Would buy again.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present for myself because I'd heard good things about Niepoort. Really layered and interesting, every sip I noticed something different. The finish is lovely too, just lingers enough without being overwhelming. At 20% it's dangerously easy to drink more than you should!
Solid port for the money
Had this after dinner with some stilton and it was a great match. Nice structure to it and the tannins are smooth enough that it's easy drinking. Not the most complex port I've ever had but at this price point I'm not complaining. Does exactly what you want an LBV to do.
Good but not amazing
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something for a dinner party. It's decent — dark fruity flavours and a clean finish — but I've had LBVs I enjoyed more for similar money. Bit underwhelming if I'm honest, though my father-in-law seemed to love it.
Expected more honestly
I'm fairly new to port so take this with a pinch of salt, but I found this a bit intense for my taste. The dark fruit thing is there and it smells great in the glass, but I think I prefer something a touch sweeter. Probably one for people who are more into their fortified wines than I am. Not bad, just not for me.
