Cristal Rosé lived up to the hype

Got recommended this by the guy at our local wine shop for our anniversary dinner. The mousse is incredibly fine and there's fresh peach and pastry notes that are just gorgeous. Long saline finish that keeps you reaching for another sip. Expensive obviously but it made the evening feel properly special.

Good not mindblowing

Tried a glass at a tasting event. It's undeniably well made — really fine bubbles, lovely bready nose, and a dry chalky finish that goes on forever. But at this price point I expected to have some kind of religious experience and it was more like yeah that's a really nice glass of fizz. The 2012 vintage is drinking well though, no rush on it.

Maybe I don't get it?

Split a bottle with friends at a restaurant (not the magnum thankfully). It's nice, really smooth and the finish goes on and on with this mineral chalky thing. But I've had £40 grower champagnes that made me just as happy. I'm sure wine people will tell me I'm wrong but for normal drinking it feels like diminishing returns.

The best rosé champagne I've ever had

Saw this on a wine list and our table decided to just go for it. Glad we did. There's a lemon curd richness to it but it stays so fresh and precise, and the finish is salty in this really compelling way. Pure Pinot Noir doing its thing at the highest level. Special stuff.

Stunning but you're paying for the name

Had this at a friend's wedding and wow, it's seriously good champagne. Really elegant, lovely almond and citrus flavours that linger forever. I'd give it a 9 if I didn't know the price — knowing it's £1500 for a magnum makes me think you could find something nearly as good for a third of that.

Birthday splurge that delivered

My wife turned 50 and I went all in with the magnum. The bubbles are so fine and creamy, and there's this amazing bread and peach thing going on that just keeps evolving in the glass. At £1500 it's obviously insane money but honestly for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion it felt worth every penny. We were still talking about it the next morning.
