El Grillo y La Luna Canto Cri Cri Chardonnay 2023
White 12% ABV ABV El GrilloNice but pricey
It's a good Chardonnay, don't get me wrong. Clean, balanced, not too heavy. But £44.50 is a lot and I've had Spanish whites at half the price that I've enjoyed just as much. If someone else is buying, absolutely — but I probably wouldn't repurchase myself.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my birthday and wow. You can smell it as soon as you pour — really expressive and interesting. It's got layers that kind of unfold as you sit with it. One of the best whites I've had this year, genuinely kept going back for another glass.
Not your typical Chardonnay
I usually avoid Chardonnay because I find them too buttery or oaky but this is completely different. Really crisp and fresh with proper depth to it. Had it with some grilled fish and it was spot on. The 12% ABV keeps it light enough for a weeknight too.
Spanish Chardonnay convert
Never really thought of Spain for Chardonnay but this has changed my mind. It doesn't try to be a Burgundy or anything, it's just doing its own thing and doing it well. Really clean finish that makes you want another sip. Shared it with a mate who knows way more about wine than me and he was impressed too.
Seriously impressed
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop wouldn't stop going on about it. He was right — it's got this lovely freshness and the flavours just keep coming the more you drink it. At £44.50 it's not cheap but honestly it felt worth it for a Friday night treat.
Great dinner party wine
Bought this for a dinner party and got loads of compliments. Really aromatic when you pour it, proper attention-grabbing stuff. Went brilliantly with the roast chicken. Would definitely buy again for when we have people over.
Solid white, nothing wild
Saw this on a restaurant menu and figured I'd try it. It's well made and nicely balanced — good acidity, not too sweet. The finish hangs around which is nice. I enjoyed it but at this price point I'd want to be a bit more blown away. Still, decent bottle.
