Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett 2021
White 12% ABV ABV Egon MullerSo much going on in one glass
Had this at a friend's dinner party and honestly couldn't stop talking about it. It's got this focused, taut thing going on where the acidity holds everything together perfectly. Light but complex — kept finding new layers the more I drank. Definitely one to sit with and take your time over rather than just knocking back.
Best Riesling I've ever had
My mate who's really into German wines told me I had to try Egon Muller at some point, so I finally splashed out. The nose hit me straight away — so aromatic and precise, like it just smells expensive if that makes sense. The finish is ridiculously clean too, no weird aftertaste, just makes you want another sip. I get why people go mad for this stuff now.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary dinner and wow. The acidity is so crisp and clean, it just cuts right through and keeps you going back for more. Every sip genuinely tasted a bit different which I've never really experienced with a white before. At £175 it's not an everyday bottle obviously, but for a big occasion it's absolutely stunning.
Lovely but hard to justify the price
Tried this at a restaurant and it was genuinely delicious — really balanced, proper depth to it without being heavy at all. But £175 a bottle is steep for a Kabinett Riesling, even a brilliant one. I've had Rieslings at a third of the price that got me nearly as excited. Would I buy it again? Probably not, but I'm glad I tried it.
