Duval-Leroy Femme de Champagne Brut Nature 2002: A Toast-Worthy Cuvee
Champagne 12% ABV ABV Duval-LeroyBlew my mind a little
Saw this on the list at a restaurant and thought why not, it's been a good year. The brioche and citrus combo on the nose is unreal and the acidity keeps everything fresh even though it's a 2002. Longest finish I've ever noticed on a champagne. My wife said I wouldn't shut up about it for the rest of the evening.
The real deal
My partner got this as a birthday present for me because I've been getting into champagne lately. It's 100% Chardonnay and you can tell — really elegant and precise, not heavy at all. The bone dry finish is brilliant, none of that sweetness you get with cheaper fizz. Sat with it for ages and it just kept changing in the glass.
Special occasion champagne
Bought this for our 20th anniversary and wow, it really delivered. The toasty, biscuity thing going on is gorgeous and it's so dry and crisp it just makes you want another glass. At £525 it's not something I'd buy every week obviously, but for a proper celebration it felt worth it.
Amazing but hard to justify the price
Had this at a tasting event and it's genuinely lovely — really complex, lots of almond and pastry flavours with a zingy finish. But £525 for a bottle? I've had champagnes at half that price that I enjoyed nearly as much. If someone else is buying, absolutely say yes though.
