First Impressions

Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Launay Horiot 2020 arrives at £650.00, and at this price point, expectations are rightly elevated. 75cl / 13.5% - Beautifully refined Burgundy from Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits. Expect notes of raspberry leaf, damson, sour cherry, and blackberry with finer tannins than your.

France's winemaking heritage needs no introduction, but the best producers continue to find new ways to express their terroir while honouring centuries of tradition. Launay Horiot is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

Got to try this at a tasting event and honestly? It's a solid Pinot Noir with nice smoky oak and dark berry notes, but I've had bottles at a tenth of the price that made me just as happy. The finish is long and interesting with a dry mineral thing going on, I'll give it that.

Saw this on the wine list at a fancy place in London and my mate insisted we split a bottle. Really rich and full bodied with clove spice and dark fruit. Enjoyed it a lot in the moment but looking up the price afterwards I nearly choked. Nice wine, ridiculous money.

Bought this for our anniversary dinner and it was genuinely lovely. The dark fruit flavours are intense — lots of bramble and something like plum jam. At £650 though, I'm not sure I'd buy it again unless we win the lottery.

5/10

Tried a glass at a wine bar and it was pleasant. Dark fruity, bit of oak smoke, decent body. But I kept thinking about the price and couldn't enjoy it properly. At £650 a bottle I want my socks knocked off and this just didn't do that for me. The damson and berry notes were lovely though, I won't lie.

Maybe I'm missing something but at this price point I expected to be blown away and I just wasn't. It's a decent heavy Pinot with some spice and dark fruit but the 2020 vintage feels a bit too round and warm to me. Would rather spend that money on a case of something else.

I know the price is mad but this is genuinely outstanding Pinot Noir. Layer after layer of damson, mulberry, and this gorgeous clove warmth. The finish just goes on and on with a dry mineral edge that keeps you coming back. Shared it with friends who know their wine and everyone was raving.

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for a dinner party. Cedar and dark berry on the finish, really lovely smoky quality throughout. My guests were impressed but none of us could tell you it's ten times better than a £65 bottle.

My wife got me this for my 50th because I'd been banging on about wanting to try a Grand Cru Burgundy. The bramble and mulberry flavours are beautiful and the tannins are really smooth. Lasted ages on the palate too. Couldn't justify buying it myself but very glad I got to try it.
