Bollinger R.D 2008 / Gift Box
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV BollingerBest champagne I've ever had
My wife got me this as a birthday present and honestly I was a bit nervous opening something this expensive. But wow. The complexity is unreal — every sip reveals something new and the finish just hangs there for ages. I kept going back to it expecting it to fade but it never did. Genuinely special bottle.
Impressive but hard to justify the price
Had this at a friend's dinner party and it's clearly a serious champagne. Really expressive nose, loads of depth on the palate, proper long finish. But £350 is a lot of money and I'm not sure it's twice as good as something at half the price. Would I buy it myself? Probably not, but I'm glad I tried it.
A bit too serious for me but objectively great
Tried this at a tasting event and it's obviously top quality champagne. Really concentrated and layered, long finish, the whole lot. Personally I prefer something a bit lighter and more fun to drink — this felt like it demanded your full attention which isn't always what I want. That said, at 12.5% it went down dangerously easy for something so intense.
Opened up beautifully over dinner
Served this with a seafood starter at a dinner party and it was stunning. What I really noticed was how it kept changing in the glass — the nose got more and more interesting over about 20 minutes. The acidity cuts through rich food perfectly. I'm not usually one to spend this much on a single bottle but the 2008 vintage is clearly something special.
The gift box is a nice touch
Picked this up as a retirement gift for my boss. We opened it at the party and even the people who normally stick to prosecco were impressed. It's got this amazing structure to it — crisp acidity but not sharp, and a richness that builds the longer you spend with it. The presentation in the gift box made it feel properly special too.
Finally tried it and I get the hype
Been reading about Bollinger RD for years and finally treated myself. The extended ageing gives it this incredible depth that you just don't get from regular champagne. Clean, precise, and the flavour lingers forever. I savoured every single glass. Already saving up for another one.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our 10th wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. The bubbles are so fine and the flavour just keeps going — layer after layer of depth that I've never really experienced in a champagne before. At £350 it's obviously not an everyday thing but for a milestone celebration it felt absolutely right.
Good but I expected more at this price
The wine shop guy recommended this as the ultimate celebration champagne so expectations were sky high. It's very good — confident aromas, well balanced, great finish — but at £350 I was hoping to have some kind of life-changing moment and it didn't quite get there for me. Maybe I need to try it again with lower expectations.
