Bollinger La Grande Annee Rose Champagne 2014: Bubbles of Distinction
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV BollingerBirthday splurge that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and wow, it did not disappoint. The bubbles are so fine and elegant, and there's this gorgeous brioche thing going on with citrus underneath. At £176 it's not an everyday bottle obviously, but for a milestone birthday? Absolutely worth it.
Bollinger know what they're doing
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and decided to treat myself. So glad I did. It's restrained in the best way — nothing showy, just really clean and precise with white peach and a long biscuity finish. This is what proper champagne should taste like.
Classy rosé champagne
Not gonna lie, I mostly drink prosecco so this was a step up for me. You can really taste the quality though — it's dry and crisp with a kind of bready flavour I wasn't expecting but really liked. Shared it with my partner over a nice steak dinner and it was perfect.
Great but hard to justify the price
Look, it's delicious. The bready, biscuity thing is spot on and the finish is crisp and satisfying. But £176 is a LOT of champagne money and I've had bottles at half the price that got me nearly as excited. One for special occasions only.
Wow wow wow
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for our anniversary. It's incredible — so precise and elegant, with these really subtle lemon curd and almond notes. My wife said it was the best champagne she's ever had and honestly I might agree.
Proper champagne
Had this at a friend's wedding and tracked down a bottle afterwards. Really refined stuff — lovely peachy nose and a dry, clean finish that just keeps going. You can tell the Pinot Noir gives it some backbone without making it heavy.
Solid but expected more
For a Bollinger at this price point I was expecting to be completely blown away. It's very good — chalky, dry finish, nice citrus notes throughout — but it didn't quite hit the heights I was hoping for. Maybe my expectations were too high. Would still recommend if you've got the budget.
New Year's Eve winner
Opened this at midnight on NYE and it was the star of the evening. Really fine bubbles, beautiful pale pink colour, and that peachy brioche combo is just lovely. Everyone kept asking what it was. Felt very fancy.
