Ximenez Spinola Pedro Ximénez Old Harvest Solera
Red 14% ABV ABV Ximenez SpinolaSolid choice for a dinner party
Brought this to a friend's birthday dinner and it went down well with everyone. Nice structure to it and the acidity keeps it interesting through a long meal. Not the most exciting wine I've ever had but genuinely good and easy to drink.
Good but not sure about the price
It's a decent wine, don't get me wrong. Smooth finish and nice balanced fruit. But nearly £30 feels a bit steep for what you're getting — I've had Spanish reds at £20 that I enjoyed just as much.
Bought two more bottles
This is one of those wines where you keep going back to the glass. Really well put together — good fruit, proper structure, and that finish just fades out so naturally. Bought it for a quiet Friday night in and ended up ordering two more the next day. At 14% it sneaks up on you though, fair warning!
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. The nose hits you straight away — really expressive and aromatic. Loads of depth and complexity, especially after it had been open for an hour or so. At under £30 I'd definitely buy it again.
Expected more honestly
Maybe I built it up too much in my head but this didn't blow me away. It's fine — clean finish, nothing offensive about it at all. Just felt like it was missing that wow factor for the price point. My partner liked it more than I did though so maybe it's just me.
My new go-to for steak night
Saw this on a restaurant menu a few months back and tracked down a bottle online. That mid-palate depth is something else, layers of flavour that keep unfolding. Had it with a ribeye and it was perfect. The finish just lingers in the best way.
Pleasant surprise
Not gonna lie, I'd never heard of Ximenez Spinola before but I'm glad I gave it a go. It's confident without being overwhelming — the aromatics are lovely and the acidity stops it feeling too heavy. Would happily have another glass.
