Williams & Humbert 20 Year Old Dos Cortados Sherry
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Williams & HumbertSolid for the price
Decent Palo Cortado. You get the almond and hazelnut notes straight away and there's a nice herby quality underneath. It's dry as anything so don't go in expecting something sweet. I'd say it's good value at this price point but I've had slightly more complex ones for a tenner more.
Not really my thing but I can see the appeal
My partner is really into sherry so I got this for his birthday. It's very dry and quite intense — lots of coffee and spice on the finish. Bit too serious for me, I prefer something sweeter. He absolutely loved it though so I guess it does what it's supposed to do.
Proper grown-up sherry
Picked this up after the guy at the wine shop said it was the best value Palo Cortado he stocked. He wasn't wrong. Bone dry with this amazing nutty thing going on — hazelnuts, walnuts, the lot. The finish just keeps going and going. Under thirty quid for a 20 year old sherry feels like a steal honestly.
Why don't more people drink sherry??
Saw this on a restaurant menu and the waiter talked me into it. Those roasted nut flavours are incredible and there's a peppery warmth at the end that's really moreish. Went home and ordered a bottle online for £27 which seems very fair for something aged 20 years. Genuinely converted to sherry now.
Great with cheese
Bought this for a dinner party and served it with a big cheese board. The dry nuttiness works brilliantly with hard cheeses. I got loads of dried fruit and a lemony zing that kept it fresh. Not sure I'd drink a huge glass on its own but as a food wine it's spot on.
