Vincent Gaudry Sancerre Rouge Vincengetorix 2021: Dark Fruit Elegance
Red 13% ABV ABV Vincent GaudryOne of my favourites this year
I've been getting into French Pinot Noir lately and this Vincent Gaudry is absolutely class. The blackcurrant and tobacco on the finish just keeps going and going. 13% so it doesn't knock you sideways either. Already ordered another bottle.
Solid Sancerre red
Most people think Sancerre is just white wine so this was a fun surprise from my local wine shop. It's a Pinot Noir but way darker and richer than most I've had. Smooth finish with a nice cedar-ish warmth. Good stuff, just wish it was a bit cheaper.
Perfect dinner party wine
Had this at a friend's place and immediately asked where she got it. There's this dark fruit thing with a bit of leather and spice that makes it feel really grown-up without being stuffy. Picked up a bottle the next day. Goes great with a cheese board.
Decent red, bit fancy for me
My partner is more into wine than I am and she picked this up for our anniversary. I could taste the dark fruits and something liquoricey which was nice. Quite smooth and easy to drink for a red. Not sure I'd spot the difference between this and something half the price but she seemed happy with it!
Nice but steep for a midweek bottle
At nearly £44 I expected to be blown away and honestly it's good but not amazing. The blackberry and cassis flavours are lovely and it's very smooth, I'll give it that. Would probably buy again if it was closer to £30.
Interesting find
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and took a punt on it. Really liked the smoky paprika note, it's not something I've had in a red before. Tannins are soft enough that it's easy to drink but there's enough going on to keep you interested.
Really impressed with this one
Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and we both loved it. Loads of dark berry flavour, almost like blackcurrant jam but in a good way, not sweet. The smoky spicy thing going on is proper interesting — went brilliantly with our lamb.
