Vina Von Siebenthal Carmenere 2020
Red 14% ABV ABV Vina Von SiebenthalDecent birthday treat
Got this as a birthday present from my sister. It's a lovely rich red, really smooth with good depth to it. The finish hangs around nicely too. I don't know much about Chilean wines but this has made me want to explore more.
Really solid Chilean red
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. Really dark fruity flavours with a bit of a herby edge that I wasn't expecting but actually really liked. At £22 it's not an everyday bottle but definitely one I'd buy again for a nice weekend dinner.
Perfect dinner party wine
Brought this to a dinner party and got loads of compliments. It's got a really distinctive herby, dark fruit thing going on that makes it stand out from your average red. Went brilliantly with the lamb we had. The kind of bottle that gets people asking where you bought it.
Nice but maybe a bit pricey
It's a good wine, well-made with nice complexity and a clean finish. But at nearly £23 I feel like you can get similar quality Chilean reds for a few quid less. Would I turn it down? No. Would I specifically seek it out again? Probably not.
Bit heavy for me
Found this at 14% and yeah, you can feel it. The fruit is nice enough and there's some interesting herby notes but it's quite full-on. Might work better in winter with a rich stew or something. Not bad, just not really my style.
Good with steak night
Bought this for a steak night with mates and it went down really well. It's got a lot going on — dark fruit, savoury bits, decent structure. Not the most exciting wine I've ever had but solid and I'd happily drink it again.
Absolutely loved this
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a bottle for the table. Everyone was impressed. It's got this gorgeous dark fruit character with savoury undertones and it just keeps giving as you drink it. Went straight home and ordered a case online. One of the best reds I've had under £25.
Carmenere is so underrated
I've been getting into Carménère lately and this is a great example. Love the dark brooding fruit and that green peppery thing you get with the grape. Feels like proper quality for the price — my partner said it smelled amazing before we even poured it.
