Veronica Ortega Quite Bierzo 2022
Red 14% ABV ABV Veronica OrtegaSolid Spanish red
Had this at a friend's dinner party and thought it was good enough to track down myself. It's well put together — fruit, acidity, everything sits nicely. The finish is clean and sticks around just long enough. Not life-changing but a dependable bottle when you want something a step up from the usual.
Nice but bit steep
Bought this for a birthday dinner. It's a decent red, structured and layered, but at nearly £26 I expected a bit more wow factor. The nose is lovely and it drinks smoothly, I just think there are Spanish reds at £15-18 that get you most of the way there. Would drink it again if someone else was buying!
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up from my local wine shop on their recommendation and glad I did. Really expressive nose — you can smell the fruit straight away without even swirling. Lovely balance to it, not too heavy for a red but plenty going on. At £25 it's not an everyday bottle but I'd happily buy it again for a nice meal.
Bierzo is so underrated
Been trying more wines from Bierzo lately and this is a great example of why. Really clean winemaking — nothing hidden or overdone, just proper fruit and structure. Goes brilliantly with lamb or a rich pasta. 14% but doesn't taste boozy at all. Veronica Ortega clearly knows what she's doing.
