Valdespino Palo Cortado Cardenal VORS
Red 14% ABV ABV ValdespinoBirthday splurge that delivered
Bought this for my 50th and wow. The complexity is insane — every sip gives you something different and the finish just hangs around forever. At £130 it's not cheap but honestly for a special occasion sherry this good, I'd do it again.
Best sherry I've ever had
My wife and I tried this at a restaurant in Jerez last year and I've been chasing it ever since. Finally tracked a bottle down online. The balance between the richness and that sharp acidity is just perfect. This is the bottle that made me actually understand what good sherry can be.
Converted a sherry skeptic
I always thought sherry was that sweet stuff my nan drinks at Christmas. A mate poured me this blind and I couldn't believe it. So dry and structured, almost like a really good aged wine. The acidity cuts right through and keeps everything fresh. Absolutely loved it.
Impressive but steep price
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for a dinner party. It's genuinely lovely — really layered nose and a finish that goes on and on. But £130 is a lot for sherry, even one this good. I'd maybe wait for a special occasion rather than a random Tuesday.
Very good but not sure it's £130 good
Had this at a tasting event and it's clearly quality stuff — clean finish, nice complexity, well put together. But I've had Palo Cortados at half the price that got me nearly as excited. If someone else is pouring, brilliant. Out of my own pocket, I'd think twice.
