First Impressions

Trus Crianza 2021 arrives at £28.25 for 75cl, and at this price, it needs to offer genuine quality to stand out in a crowded market. A fruity Spanish red from Bodegas Trus, this 2021 vintage Tempranillo has aromas of ripe plums and soft cinnamon on the nose, and warm spices on the palate. Try pairing with a selection

Spain's wine renaissance has seen traditional regions rediscovering their identity while new-wave producers push boundaries with indigenous varieties. Trus is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers dark cherry and blackcurrant aromas lead, with hints of cedar, tobacco leaf, and warm baking spices. Moving to the palate, the wine is full-bodied and generous, with layers of dark fruit, supple tannins, and a savoury mid-palate of dried herbs and spice. The finish is persistent finish of cherry, cocoa, and dried herbs with a savoury earthy close.

Food Pairing and Serving

This pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, aged cheeses, and hearty stews. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30 minutes to let the aromas fully develop.

The Verdict

Trus Crianza 2021 earns a well-deserved 7 out of 10. This is an very good red that delivers Tempranillo with genuine conviction and craft. At £28.25, the quality-to-price ratio here is genuinely impressive. Whether you're building a cellar or simply looking for something excellent to drink tonight, this bottle earns its place.

Alex Ramos VIPsAllowed - Bit pricey for what it is

Not bad at all, nice cherry and cocoa thing going on at the end, but nearly thirty quid? I've had Ribera del Dueros at half the price that I enjoyed just as much. Would probably order it off a restaurant menu but wouldn't rush to buy another bottle.

Saw this on a menu and ordered a glass first to try it. Dark fruit, cedar, a bit of tobacco — all the stuff you'd expect from a decent Crianza. Nothing wildly surprising but everything's well put together. Had it with a burger and it worked great.

This was my birthday present from my partner and we cracked it open with ribeyes. Absolutely loved it — really rich and warming with that herby, savoury taste in the middle. The 14.5% hits you a bit so pace yourself, but honestly it's proper grown-up wine. Will be buying more.

Bought this for a dinner party and it got decent reviews around the table. It's a chunky Tempranillo with lots of dark fruit and a slightly smoky finish. Personally I thought it was a bit heavy for the price — you can find similar for under £20 if you shop around.

Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. Big dark cherry flavours, nice bit of spice, and it went down really well with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder. At £28 it's not an everyday bottle but I'd definitely grab another for a special occasion.
