The Norfolk Selection PX Fortified Wine: A Sip of History
Fortified 20% ABV ABV The Norfolk SelectionChristmas gift that blew me away
My sister got me this for Christmas and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from a PX that wasn't sherry. Poured it after dinner and the fig and caramel hit immediately — properly rich stuff. That dry finish is the real surprise though, doesn't leave you with that cloying sticky feeling. Will definitely be ordering another bottle.
Best thing I've had all year
Absolutely loved this. Served it at a dinner party with some strong blue cheese and everyone was fighting over the last pour. It's rich and warming but somehow still clean tasting? The toffee on the finish just lingers forever. At 20% it's dangerously easy to drink for how strong it is.
Really interesting but not cheap
Picked this up after the guy in the wine shop recommended it. It's good — the dark chocolate and walnut thing is spot on and it's got this salty edge that stops it being too sweet. £27 is a bit steep for something I'd only bring out occasionally, but I suppose it lasts a while since you're not pouring big glasses.
Nice dessert wine alternative
Not gonna lie, I had to Google what Pedro Ximenez was before buying this. It's like a posh dessert in a glass — figs, caramel, orange peel, the lot. I found it a touch heavy on its own but brilliant with a bit of dark chocolate after dinner. Would buy again for a special occasion.
