Taylor's 2016 Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Taylor'sWorth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary dinner and it was the highlight of the evening. Incredibly smooth for something at 20% — you genuinely can't feel the alcohol, it's all just rich dark fruit and power. We paired it with a chocolate torte and honestly it was one of those meals you remember. Not cheap at £93 but for a declared vintage port this is the real deal.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present to myself because I've been wanting to try a Taylor's vintage for ages. Really impressed — it's powerful but composed, like everything is exactly where it should be. The nose alone had me sat there sniffing the glass for five minutes before I even took a sip. Bit of a splurge but no regrets.
Solid vintage port, needs time to open up
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted a proper vintage port to lay down. Tried a glass before putting the rest away and it's already really good — concentrated and layered with loads going on. Give it a proper swirl and let it sit in the glass, it keeps changing. Taking a point off only because at this price I expected to be completely floored, and I think it needs more years yet.
Very good but steep price tag
Look, this is a quality port, no question. Loads of depth, lovely long finish, well made. But nearly £93 is a lot of money and I've had LBVs at a third of the price that I've enjoyed almost as much on a weeknight. One for special occasions rather than something I'd rebuy regularly. If someone else is paying though, absolutely get it.
This is what port should taste like
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately went and bought two bottles. The finish just goes on and on — you take a sip and you're still tasting it a minute later. Everything is balanced perfectly, nothing sticks out. Best port I've had outside of Portugal.
