Taylor's 1976 Single Harvest Port: Deep, Complex, Unforgettable
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Taylor'sBest port I've ever had, no contest
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and treated myself for our anniversary. It's just ridiculously good — layer after layer of dried fruit and walnut, and that dry finish at the end stops it being too sweet. My wife doesn't even like port and she was stealing sips. Taylor's clearly know what they're doing with these old single harvests.
Really nice but I'm more of a red wine person
Got this as a gift and I'll be honest, I don't usually drink port. But this was something else — really silky texture and I kept getting fig and raisin with this toasty caramel underneath. Not as sweet as I expected which was a pleasant surprise. Would definitely try more aged ports after this.
Seriously impressive stuff
Had this at a wine tasting event and it completely stole the show. Super rich with all this walnut and toffee flavour but it doesn't feel heavy at all, there's a sharpness that keeps it interesting. You'd never guess it's 20% — dangerously smooth.
Beautiful but hard to justify the price
A mate brought this round for a dinner party and yeah, it's lovely. Dried fruit, caramel, orange peel — loads going on. But £299 for a bottle of port? I enjoyed every sip but I'm not sure I'd buy it myself when there are great tawnies for a fraction of that.
Worth every single penny
Bought this for my dad's 70th birthday and we opened it after dinner. The fig and caramel thing going on is just incredible — it kept changing in the glass over like an hour. At £299 it's not cheap but for a 1976 port that tastes this good, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Like drinking history
The guy at the wine shop talked me into this and I'm glad he did. 1976! The finish just goes on and on — walnut and toffee that sort of dries out at the end and makes you want another glass. Paired it with some stilton and walnuts after Christmas dinner. Perfection.
