Santenay Maison en Belles Lies 2022
Red 14% ABV ABV Belles LiesGreat dinner party wine
Picked this up for a dinner party and got loads of compliments. Poured it about half an hour before we sat down and by the time we were eating it was singing. Balanced fruit, good acidity, and it held up really well with lamb. Would definitely buy again for when we have people over.
Good but give it time to breathe
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and I'm glad he did, though I nearly gave up on it. First few sips were a bit tight and closed off, but after letting it sit for a while it really came alive. Nice firm acidity that stops it feeling too heavy despite the 14% alcohol. Bit pricey for a weeknight bottle though.
Decent but a touch expensive
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and liked it enough to track down a bottle for home. It's a solid red — clean finish and nicely balanced, not one of those fruit bombs that just overwhelms you. My only gripe is the price, £52 feels a bit steep when there are good Burgundies around for less. That said I did finish the bottle pretty quickly so maybe that says something.
Proper Burgundy without the insane price tag
I've been getting into Burgundy lately and this Santenay is a cracking entry point. Complex without being showy — there's real backbone to it and the finish just keeps going. £52 is still a lot of money but compared to what some Burgundy goes for these days it's honestly not bad.
Really impressed with this one
Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and it was a hit with everyone at the table. Needs a good 20 minutes to open up but once it does the aromas are fantastic. Properly structured red with real depth — went perfectly with a slow-cooked beef stew. At £52 it's not cheap but felt worth it for the occasion.
