Sandeman 20 Year Old Tawny Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV SandemanSolid tawny port
Picked this up at the airport duty free for my dad's birthday. We cracked it open after dinner and both really enjoyed it. Lovely balance of sweet and nutty flavours, not too syrupy like some ports can be. The acidity keeps it really drinkable.
Absolute stunner
I'm not usually a port person but this completely changed my mind. So rich and warming without being boozy at all. The orange peel and cinnamon notes are beautiful. Dangerous how easy this goes down at 20%.
Good but not sure it's worth the price
The wine shop guy recommended this over the 10 year old and yeah it's definitely more complex — lots of fig and caramel going on. But at nearly £50 I'm not sure I'd buy it regularly when the 10 year is half the price and still lovely.
Christmas present to myself
Bought this as a treat over Christmas and honestly it was the highlight of the holidays. The dried fruit and toffee flavours are gorgeous, and it's so smooth for 20% ABV. At £48 it's not cheap but for a 20 year old port I think it's actually pretty reasonable.
New favourite dessert wine
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a glass on a whim. The dried apricot and date flavours are incredible, like a really posh fruit cake in a glass. Went home and ordered a bottle online straight away.
Nice enough, expected more
Maybe my expectations were too high for a 20 year old but I found it a bit one-note after the first couple of glasses. The toffee and almond on the finish is nice though. Would probably try a different producer next time at this price point.
Perfect after dinner
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately went and bought a bottle myself. Really nice butterscotch and nutty taste, and the finish just goes on and on. Great with a bit of stilton or just on its own by the fire.
Best port I've ever had
Tried this at a tasting event and was blown away. Twenty years of ageing really shows — there's walnut, caramel, candied citrus, it just keeps giving you new things with every sip. Bought two bottles on the spot. Worth every penny of the £48.
