Ruth Banks VIPsAllowed - Proper grown-up champagne
8/10

The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something different from the usual Moët. It's bone dry (brut nature apparently means no added sugar) but way more interesting than I expected — got this gorgeous stone fruit flavour and a clean finish that just keeps going. Would definitely buy again for a nice dinner.

Bought this for my 40th and wow, it did not disappoint. Really crisp and dry but not in a harsh way — there's this lovely creamy fizz and a sort of stony mineral thing going on that I kept going back to. At nearly 80 quid it's not an everyday bottle but for a special occasion it's brilliant.

Liam Anderson VIPsAllowed - Good but steep price

Had this at a friend's place and really enjoyed it — lovely bubbles, quite mineral and fresh with a hint of brioche. But at nearly £80 I'm not sure I'd pick it over some of the other champagnes I've had at that price. Solid wine though, just maybe not quite worth the premium for me.

I've been getting into grower champagnes lately and this Ruppert Leroy is one of the best I've tried. There's a chalky, saline quality to it that makes it feel really precise, and the acidity is sharp without being aggressive. Paired it with some oysters and it was absolutely perfect. Not cheap but you're paying for genuine quality here.

Brought this to a dinner party and everyone asked about it. It's super dry which I love, with citrus and orchard fruit flavours and these really fine bubbles. A couple of people said it was too dry for them but honestly I thought it was spot on. Goes amazingly well with fish if you're wondering.
