Ruppert Leroy Fosse Grely Champagne / Brut Nature
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Ruppert LeroyThis is what champagne should taste like
Had this at a friend's house and immediately had to find out what it was. Zero dosage so there's no sweetness hiding anything — just pure clean fruit and this savoury, almost chalky finish that lasts ages. Been getting more into natural-style champagnes lately and Ruppert Leroy is the real deal.
Interesting but not sure I'd rebuy
The guy at my local wine shop talked me into this as a 'proper grower champagne'. It's definitely different from your usual Moët — much more minerally and serious. Took me a few sips to get into it honestly. Good stuff but at this price I'd probably want something a bit more crowd-pleasing for a dinner party.
Special occasion champagne
Bought this for my wife's birthday and we were both blown away. It's bone dry with no added sugar which I loved — really crisp and almost salty? The bubbles are fine and it just keeps going in your mouth. Pricey at £80 but for a celebration it felt worth it.
Grew on me big time
Not gonna lie, first glass I thought it was a bit austere and wondered if I'd wasted eighty quid. By glass two something clicked — layers of flavour kept coming through and that dry salty finish is weirdly addictive. Had it with some charcuterie and hard cheese and it was perfect. Would definitely get again for a nice evening in.
