Roland Champion Grand Eclate 2016 Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Roland ChampionBirthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and it was genuinely brilliant. Really crisp and clean with proper depth to it — not one of those champagnes that's all fizz and no substance. At £51 it's not cheap but for a Grand Cru blanc de blancs on a special occasion, I thought it was fair enough.
Christmas day winner
Opened this on Christmas morning with smoked salmon and it was absolutely spot on. Proper structured champagne with real complexity — you can tell it's Grand Cru Chardonnay, everything just feels precise and confident. Already ordered two more for New Year's. One of the best blanc de blancs I've had under £60.
Nice but maybe not £50 nice
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something a step up from supermarket champagne. It's good — lovely clean acidity and there's definitely layers going on — but I'm not sure I'd pay over fifty quid again when there are solid options for £35. Would happily drink it if someone else was buying though.
Proper grown-up champagne
Had this at a dinner party and immediately asked the host where they got it. It's got this really elegant thing going on where the flavours kind of unfold as you drink it rather than hitting you all at once. Tracked a bottle down online and it's become my go-to for when I want to impress without going totally overboard on price.
Surprised how much I liked this
I'm usually more of a prosecco person honestly but my partner picked this up and wow, it's a different league. Really clean and fresh, and the finish just lingers nicely without being overpowering. 12.5% ABV means you can have a couple of glasses without falling asleep on the sofa too.
