Rosa Paredes VIPsAllowed - Blanc de Blancs done right
8/10

I've been getting more into champagne lately and this is exactly what I was hoping a Blanc de Blancs would taste like. There's a real chalky minerality to it and the acidity is sharp without being aggressive. Not overly complex but everything just works together really well. Solid pick at this price point.

The wine shop guy recommended this as a step up from my usual Moët and it is better, but I'm not sure it's £45 better. It's got a nice clean finish and the bubbles are fine and elegant, but I was expecting something that would blow me away and it's more like a solid, reliable champagne. Good, not mind-blowing.

Marianne Blom VIPsAllowed - Perfect dinner party champagne
8/10

Had this at a friend's place and immediately went and tracked down a bottle for myself. It's got this lovely balance where it's interesting enough to sip on its own but doesn't fight with food — we had it with some smoked salmon starters and it was spot on. Really precise and clean all the way through.

Bought this for my 40th and honestly it was the highlight of the night. Really crisp and clean with a lovely freshness that just kept me coming back for more. At £45 it's not cheap but for a Grand Cru champagne it felt like proper value. Would absolutely buy again for a special occasion.
