Ribeiro Ollos de Roque Augalevada 2021
Red 14% ABV ABV AugalevadaInteresting stuff
Not your typical supermarket red — this has actual complexity to it. Warm earthy smell, dark fruit on the palate, good acidity keeping everything fresh. Shared it with mates and everyone wanted to know what it was. Augalevada clearly know what they're doing.
Spanish gem
I don't know much about Ribeiro wines but this was a really pleasant surprise. Dark fruit, herbs, and it doesn't taste boozy at all despite being 14%. Drank it over two evenings and it was actually better on day two.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my birthday and wow. Layer after layer of flavour — dried herbs, dark berries, something earthy underneath. The finish just keeps going. One of the best reds I've had this year honestly.
Great with steak
Had this with a ribeye on Saturday night and it was perfect. Big enough to stand up to the meat but not heavy or jammy. Really clean finish too. The kind of wine that makes you slow down and pay attention.
Proper grown-up wine
Picked this up from a wine shop in Bristol after the guy behind the counter talked me into it. Really glad he did — dark fruity, herby, and just feels like a serious wine without being hard work. Would absolutely buy again.
Solid red, bit pricey
Saw this recommended online and thought I'd try it. It's well made and I liked the herby, savoury thing it's got going on. But for £36 I've had wines that excited me more. Would probably go for it on offer.
Nice but not cheap
Got this for a dinner party and it went down well with the lamb. Earthy and smooth with a long finish. At £36 though I'd probably only buy it for special occasions. Good, not quite blow-your-mind good.
