Birthday treat that delivered

My wife got me this for my birthday after I started getting into sherries. The depth on this is unreal — dark toffee, hazelnuts, dried fruit, all that good stuff. And the dry tangy finish is so moreish. 20% ABV sneaks up on you though, fair warning.

Genuinely blown away

Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a glass on a whim. Ended up buying a bottle the next day. The nose hit me straight away — raisins and toffee — and the palate is just layers and layers of flavour. That dry finish is incredible, it just makes you want another sip immediately.

Not sure it's for me

The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted to try sherry. It's very intense — loads of raisin and fig on the nose which was nice, but the whole thing was a bit much for me. I can see why people rate it but I think I prefer something lighter. Might stick to fino.

Solid palo cortado

I've been working my way through different sherry styles and this is a really solid palo cortado. Good balance between the richness and the acidity. The fig and caramel notes are bang on. £38 is about right for the quality, maybe slightly high but not outrageous.

Great with cheese

Had this with a big cheese board and some walnuts and it was a perfect match. Really rich and figgy but that acidity stops it being heavy. Would buy again but probably only for specific occasions at that price.

Bit pricey for what it is

It's nice enough, don't get me wrong. Lots of dried fruit and nutty flavours which I enjoyed. But nearly £40 for sherry still feels steep to me when you can get decent ones for half that. Would probably try something else next time unless it was on offer.

Proper grown-up sherry

Bought this for a dinner party and it was the star of the evening. The toffee and walnut thing going on is gorgeous, and it's got this dry finish that means you just keep going back to it. At £38 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for something a bit special.
