Reservas Especiales Oloroso Don Jose Sherry / Romate
Fortified 20% ABV ABV RomateSolid oloroso
Decent sherry for the price. Nice and dry with a clean finish that keeps you coming back for another sip. Not the most complex oloroso I've had but it does everything well and nothing wrong.
Good but a bit steep
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's nice enough — warm, oxidative, proper sherry flavour. But £31 feels a bit much when you can get a good oloroso for less. Would buy again on offer though.
My intro to oloroso
I'm more of a red wine person normally but tried this at a friend's house and really liked it. It's warming and smooth, not sweet at all which surprised me. Might be getting into sherry now, dangerous territory for my wallet.
Really warming stuff
Picked this up after getting into sherry recently and wow, it's proper good. Really rich and warm without being boozy even at 20%. Had it with some manchego and almonds and it was perfect.
Nice sipper
Saw this on a menu at a tapas place and ordered a bottle to take home. It's a well-made sherry, clean and structured with a lovely long finish. Not life-changing but I've gone through the bottle pretty quickly so that says something.
Christmas dinner hero
Bought this for Christmas dinner and it was the star of the evening. Everyone kept asking what it was. Goes brilliantly with cheese and nuts after the meal. The finish just lingers perfectly without being harsh.
Absolutely gorgeous
This is everything I want from an oloroso. Rich and layered, you keep finding new things in it the longer you sit with it. The balance is spot on — fruity but dry, strong but not aggressive. One of my favourite sherries this year.
Decent, expected more
It's fine. Pleasant enough and does the oloroso thing well but at this price point I was hoping for a bit more complexity. The nose is really nice and inviting but the palate didn't quite live up to it for me. Would rather spend the money on a Lustau personally.
