Ramos Pinto Collector Reserva Ruby Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Ramos PintoBit much for a casual port
Got this as part of a port tasting night with mates. It's decent and definitely has more going on than the cheap stuff, but for £20 I expected to be more wowed? The finish is nice and clean though, I'll give it that. My friend who's more into wine than me rated it higher so maybe I'm missing something.
Proper port for the price
Picked this up from Majestic on a whim because I wanted something for after Christmas dinner. Really glad I did — it's got that rich berry thing going on but doesn't taste like drinking jam, which is my problem with a lot of ports. Twenty quid feels about right for something this smooth.
My new go-to port
I'm fairly new to port but I've been trying a few different ones and this Ramos Pinto is probably my favourite so far at this price point. It's got layers to it if that makes sense — like the flavour keeps developing after you take a sip. Goes brilliantly with dark chocolate if anyone's wondering.
Great find for a dinner party
Brought this to a friend's birthday dinner and it went down really well after dessert. Everyone commented on how it wasn't cloying like ports can be — there's a proper structure to it and the fruit flavour builds as you sip. Definitely one I'll keep in the rotation.
Solid but not mindblowing
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted a ruby port that wasn't too sweet. He was right — it's nicely balanced and you don't really notice the 20% ABV which is dangerous honestly. Good with a bit of stilton. Would buy again but wouldn't say it's changed my life or anything.
