Quinta do Vesuvio 2019 Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Quinta do VesuvioGood but steep price
My wife got me this for my birthday and it's a solid port, no question. Loads of dark berry flavour and a lovely long finish. But at nearly £70 a bottle I'd probably reach for something a bit less expensive for everyday sipping after dinner.
Christmas treat that delivered
Bought this for Christmas Day and it was the star of the cheese course. Really rich dark fruit but not syrupy like some ports can be — it's got this nice acidity that keeps it fresh even at 20%. Not cheap at £67 but honestly felt worth it for the occasion.
Nice enough, expected more
Had this at a dinner party and it was perfectly pleasant with the dark chocolate torte. Clean finish, well balanced. For the price tag though I was expecting something that would blow my socks off and it was more quietly impressive than that. Maybe it needs more time?
Incredible depth
I've been getting into vintage port recently and this Quinta do Vesuvio is one of my favourites so far. The fruit is concentrated but it doesn't just smack you in the face — it builds layers as you sit with it. Finished the bottle over three evenings and it actually got better each night.
The wine shop guy was right
Went into Majestic looking for a port to go with stilton and the guy behind the counter pointed me at this. Glad he did. It's complex without being overwhelming — you keep noticing new things as you drink it. Proper grown-up port, not that sickly sweet stuff my nan used to have.
Converted a port sceptic
I normally find port too heavy and sweet but a friend opened this after dinner and I was genuinely surprised. It's got real structure to it and doesn't feel boozy despite being 20%. Dark fruit, bit of spice on the finish. Might have to start rethinking my stance on port.
