Quinta do Vesuvio 2017 Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Quinta do VesuvioSolid after-dinner port
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a glass to try before buying a bottle. Glad I did. It's smooth and composed, not one of those ports that just hits you with sugar and heat. Good with strong cheese if that's your thing.
Complex and warming
Opened this with my dad who's the port drinker in the family and even he was impressed. What I liked is it doesn't hit you all at once — you keep noticing different layers as you sip. We had it with dark chocolate and it was perfect. Would definitely buy as a gift for someone who appreciates the good stuff.
Quinta do Vesuvio nailed it
I've been slowly getting into vintage port and this is one of the best I've tried. Really clear aromas when you first pour it, and on the palate it's got this balanced thing going on where the sweetness, fruit and acidity all play nicely together. Dangerous how easy it goes down at 20%.
Nice but not sure it's £77 nice
Partner picked this up on a trip to Portugal. It's definitely quality — clean finish, lovely nose when you swirl it, and it doesn't taste boozy despite the ABV. But I'm still learning about port and honestly not sure I can tell the difference between this and something half the price yet. That's probably on me though.
Good but steep price
Bought this for a dinner party and everyone enjoyed it, but at nearly £80 I expected to be completely blown away. It's well-made and smooth, nice depth to it, but I've had ports at half the price that got me just as excited. Would I buy it again? Maybe for a special occasion.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present to myself and wow, glad I did. The fruit is rich but not jammy, and the alcohol doesn't burn at all despite being 20%. Sat with a glass after dinner and it just kept revealing new things the longer I spent with it.
Proper vintage port
My local wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for Christmas. It's elegant and layered — you can tell it's serious stuff without needing a wine degree. The finish hangs around in a really pleasant way. Not cheap at £77 but you get what you pay for.
