Quinta do Noval 2012 Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Quinta do NovalChristmas day winner
Opened this on Christmas day and it was the star of the whole meal. Really rich dark fruit flavours but not overpowering — everyone kept going back for another glass. At £72 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for a special occasion.
Good not great
Decent port but I expected a bit more given the price tag. The dark fruit and the long finish are nice, and it's definitely smooth for 20%, but it didn't quite have that wow factor for me. Maybe I need to give it more time to open up next time.
Properly good port
Bought this as a birthday present for my dad who's been into port for years. He said it was one of the better ones he's had recently — smooth, warming, and the finish just keeps going. We shared it after dinner and it lasted ages which was nice.
Blown away
First time trying anything from Quinta do Noval and wow. There's this almost resinous depth to it that keeps changing as it sits in the glass. Paired it with some stilton and it was genuinely one of the best wine moments I've had this year.
Nice but pricey
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special. It's good — dark fruity nose, really well balanced for 20% ABV — but I'm not sure it's £72 good. I've had ports at half the price that I enjoyed just as much.
Solid port for after dinner
Had this at a dinner party and tracked it down online afterwards. It's got a lovely warmth to it without that harsh alcohol burn you sometimes get with ports. The acidity keeps it from being too sweet which I appreciated. Would buy again for a nice evening in.
