Quinta do Noval 2011 Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Quinta do NovalSolid port, bit steep though
Picked this up after the guy at the wine shop talked me into it. It's really good — smells amazing straight out of the bottle and has this bright acidity that stops it being too heavy or sweet. My only gripe is the price. £119 is a lot for port when you can get perfectly nice ones for half that. That said, I'd buy it again for a birthday or anniversary.
Really nice with cheese
We cracked this open with a big cheese board after Sunday roast and it was perfect. I'm not usually a port person but this one converted me a bit — it's got proper depth to it and doesn't taste overly sweet. The structure holds up really well. Wouldn't pay £119 again on a whim but I'd definitely split a bottle with mates.
Christmas present that delivered
My wife got me this for Christmas and honestly it might be the best port I've ever had. Really smooth for something at 20% — you don't feel the alcohol at all which is dangerous. The flavours just keep changing as you sip it, layers and layers of stuff going on. At £119 it's not cheap but for a special occasion bottle it's worth every penny.
Genuinely incredible
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately went and ordered a bottle for myself. From the moment you pour it you can smell how good it's going to be. The finish is clean and lingers just the right amount — none of that cloying sticky sweetness you get with cheaper ports. This is the one I'm bringing out when we have people over.
